Nestled in North Eastern British Columbia, Dawson Creek is a growing town with a unique blend of southern charm and northern allure. During our visit to Dawson Creek, after a camping trip in Tumbler Ridge, we managed to uncover the city's hidden treasures. This itinerary is a mere suggestion, and we hope it inspires you to venture out and support this captivating community.

After our delightful time in Dawson Creek, we continued our expedition northward, visiting Fort St. John for another exciting day. We are not from these communities, so feel to share your experiences in the comments.

A Day of Adventure in Dawson Creek with Kids

When traveling with young children, it's essential to have a well-rounded plan. Here are some family-friendly activities to enjoy in Dawson Creek:

  1. Historic Kiskatinaw Bridge: Take a short twenty-minute drive from town to reach the remarkable Kiskatinaw Bridge. This historic curved bridge offers a glimpse into the past while providing breathtaking views of the serene Peace region. It's easy to find with signs along the highway or by stopping at the visitor information centre.

  2. Playground Excitement: Children are easily won over by playgrounds, and Dawson Creek has plenty to offer. Take a break midday and let your little ones enjoy some playtime. Pack a picnic lunch or grab a delicious meal in town and relax as your kids climb, slide, and make new friends.

  3. Walter Wright Pioneer Village: Step back in time at the Walter Wright Pioneer Village. This fascinating attraction, with its casual atmosphere and donation-based entry, captures the imagination of all ages. Explore the collection of vintage trucks, tractors, and historical buildings, and listen to the sound of your children's awe-filled "wows."

  4. Hiking and Walking Trails: Embrace the natural beauty surrounding Dawson Creek by embarking on a hike or leisurely walk. Although rain dampened our plans, you can explore local trails.

  5. Pool Time and Outdoor Swim: Take a refreshing dip at the Ken Borek Aquatic Centre, Dawson Creek's public pool. Alternatively, head south to Swan Lake for a rejuvenating swim and a relaxing time amidst nature's splendor.

  6. Local Attractions: Discover more about Dawson Creek and its surroundings by visiting the Visitor Information Centre. Delve into the history of the Northern Alberta Railway at the Railway Museum, and immerse yourself in local art at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery. These attractions provide unique experiences and make excellent picnic spots with their grain towers and railway station.
