Maternity Must-Haves for Summer 2022

by Bailey Bouwman

Some days it feels like summer, but most days I still furnace on. I know it's a confusing time of the year, and you're not sure if you should be buying winter clothes or summer clothes.

But we know the heat will come and you might want a few summer pieces to stay cool during a hot flash or heat wave for your summer pregnancy wardrobe. This year, we're bringing in new brands, Seraphine Maternity, and restocking favourites from Ripe Maternity and Hello Miz.

Building a Spring Maternity Wardrobe

To make it through the summer months, it’s key you invest in a few essentials. Nest & Sprout Maternity strongly believes that right clothes can make you feel incredible and help give you back that important spark in your life. Build your summer wardrobe by investing in at least one pair of maternity shorts, and a few comfortable dresses. Everything else is nice-to have. The best thing about most maternity clothes is they are adaptable and accessible for the post partum period. And for many of us, we’ll continue to wear our maternity shorts for years to come as our bodies change and adapt. We know that Canadian summers are short. It might just be 8-12 weeks of warm enough of shorts. When your done with your summer maternity clothes, touch base with us to consign. Our maternity consignment continues to grow as we ship maternity wear across Canada to be reunited with new parents in need of comfortable clothes. We have easy local pick up for maternity consignment in Prince George.

Maternity Style Must-Haves for Summer 2022

Now, if you have followed Nest & Sprout for some time, you’ll know that I’m not big on having it all and love to support you and feel empowered in whatever size your wardrobe is. We've recommended a few key items to help you feel comfortable.

Maternity Shorts for Summer 2021

A Pair of Maternity Shorts

Whether you love your legs or not, you'll want a pair of maternity shorts. We've brought in both denim and non-denim - my preference is the Maternity Bike Shorts because they offer this incredibly comfortable and soft maternity short feel and fit.

However, not everyone is into that super casual look, so you can shop both 5" maternity short and 7" rolled maternity shorts to find a denim fit that is comfort. The bike short did come in extended sizing, offering a maternity size XXL that is very generous. I typically wear a XXL and went down a size in these for my perfect snug fit.

If you want something even more comfortable, the Hello Miz lounge shorts are made of a soft Terry, with a full belly panel for that every day bum around the house or the campsite comfort.

We've had a few asks for maternity capri's, and at this time, I haven't seen anything specific. But we do have a few styles in store, as well as shorter denim lengths that you could consider.

Tanks & Tees

Build layers into your maternity style this summer with tanks and tee's. These classic timeless pieces will give you versatile comfort for your growing bump with rouching and extra width in the belly. Pair with your favourite hoodie or cardigan for all-weather comfort.

If you're looking for something that can be used postpartum for breastfeeding, we recommend you check out these new additions from Seraphine Maternity. With hidden and discrete zippers, they'll cover your bump and help you breastfeed in the fourth trimester. Maternity tops this summer don't have to be short lifespan, they can be items you wear for years to come.

Both of these tops offer a timeless maternity style for the third and fourth trimester.

Maternity Dress

From maxi dresses to something a little shorter, we have a wide selection of summer maternity dresses to prepare you for wedding season, or your baby shower, or lounging at the beach. These styles feature easy-access v-necks to support nursing, and allow you to wear the item beyond pregnancy and into the fourth trimester with ease.

Looking for something super cute?

The cutest maternity look this year is the maternity short overalls. We know that maternity overalls have been the hottest item for months, and these short overalls are incredibly comfortable with a built in belly space, extending side buttons, and the comfort you need for a summer pregnancy. They also perfect for postpartum.
